Me and my press

  1. I am still in love with your press!
What brand of ink do you use and what volume are the tubes? I recently gave oil based inks a go and the results were pretty bad, but I think I should try again before writing them off completely. Would love to hear your opinions

    1. So sorry it took so long for me to reply. This business class I’m taking has kept me too busy. I use what I assume is mostly Van Son oil-based ink. I say assume, because I don’t purchase the majority of my ink from Dave Robison (Ink in Tubes guy). This way I was able to complete my Pantone collection (even though I don’t use Pantone), and mix any color I can think up. I have only ever printed with oil-based ink, so I can’t tell you if it’s better or worse, just that I like it and it works for me. I always print my paper damp though. It’s a “trade-secret” my letterpress teacher taught me. It’s more work intensive, but is better for the press and if you are using lead or wood type will lengthen the life of those as well. What in particular isn’t working when you use oil-based?
