Things to Be Made

Tomorrow: Thanksgiving #1 : at Dad’s
Go over after breakfast to start preparing the meal.

  • Roasted chicken w/stuffing and gravy
  • Pearl onions
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Pull-apart rolls
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Pumpkin Pie OR Apple Galette
  • Cranberry Sauce
After all this, I might just make a tray of cheesecake bars to take down to Latham. Use the Vanilla Bean with Pecan crust from Williams-Sonoma Baking, double and bake in large tray.

Day After Tomorrow: Thanksgiving #2: at Latham, KS with Brandon’s Kin

  • Wake up early and make dough for two loaves Challah (recipe in Baking with Julia)
  • Dough undergoes two rises before shaping, each takes about 1.5 hours. It takes 3 hours to get to Latham, so all I need to worry about is mixing and kneading, and I can punch the dough down on the ride there :) If I wake up at 7:30am, I should have enough time to mix and knead the dough, start the rise and GTFO.

Tonight I got a huge craving for sweet potatoes and 30 minutes later had made japanese rice, diced sweet potato with shichimi togarashi, sweet-simmered dried shitake (Hoshi Shiitake no Umani), salmon flakes (sake furikake), and green peas. I had some shibazuke (ume vinegar pickles) leftover from a couple night ago. It was yummy. I’ll probably make sweet potato oyaki and dilled pea salad with the leftover veggies after I get back from thanksgiving revelries.
